PowerPoint provides pretty cool ways to express your ideas. And one among them is what we are going to learn today and that is Transparency. Before we dive into the details lets see the pros of the Transparency in PowerPoint.
As most of us know that PowerPoint limits Transparency option to Shapes and Background Fills. And if you want to apply it to the picture then you got to fill the picture inside a shape. Well! whatever the cause may be, here are two pros of Transparency
1) Allows you to subtle things on the slides that looks creative
2) Creates new subtle color look within your slides that conveniences the eyes of your audience
And Cons are depended on your object placements. Let’s begin this concept with an example, and for the demonstration we are going to work on the slide which you can see right below:
The above figure shows the concepts of Risk Factors that are mostly used in validating charts or any strategic presentations. Although we can use different colors to represent a concept but yet we can use just one color to match with the entire concept that we are about to present, in this case Risk is mostly represented in Red color. But if you see the figure keenly — you might not find any difference, except the text content. Now have a look at the Figure down below that has same objects but have Transparency applied.
Now compare the above figure with the top most figure and observe what attracts you and your presentation viewer. Fact: Most of the audience will react to transparency applied objects than of fully solid objects, the reason behind this is — A human brain collects information depending on the colors the eyes observe and if your slide is mono color and has no variation except the text than the attention towards your slide objects is low when compared to the objects that do vary in color or properties. But using too bright colors can also distract your audience and make their brains go crazy so you got to be careful while applying colors to the objects in PowerPoint, and Transparency comes very handy when you want to use bright colors such as Red, Blue and Green or when combining color to create new color.
Here are few example slides for obtaining ideas on using Transparency.
The above figure contains objects that are PowerPoint native shape with RED solid fill. Transparency of 1st circle is set to 80% and the next one is set to 70% and as you can see the point of intersection has a darker variation when compared to the rest. By using this concept you can variate data etc.
And the below figure shows you the search concept. The slide background was a picture fill a screenshot of Google search results, and its transparency was set to 50% and a picture of Google Search windows was added on top.
So as you can see in above figures, transparency does the job pretty well. Now its time You to explore even more ideas by applying transparency to the solid shapes or picture fills within your presentation.
