We are back with one more cool PowerPoint animation tutorial. In today’s edition we’ll show you how to create animated twinkling stars in PowerPoint by just using the PowerPoint’s native shapes and couple of animations. So, follow these steps and pictures to create your own twinkling stars.
Step 1) Open PowerPoint and select Blank Presentation (for this tutorial we are using PowerPoint 2013 you can use any version above 2010).
Step 2) Click on the Insert menu from the Ribbon and Choose Shapes > Select 6 Point star or 8 point star (Your wish) within Stars and Banners category.
Step 3) The Inserted shapes looks like a star but we are talking about twinkling stars that are tiny is size. So click and hold your mouse on the yellow point and drag down till the star becomes slim but not too much thin. And later resize it to a small tiny level (see Figures below).
Step 4) Now duplicate the star shape and create stars as many as you want and place them in random manner on top side of the slide.
Step 5) Change the slide background to solid black or even you can opt for any darker color or gradient. And select all the stars and change their fill to solid white color as shown in Figure below. Note if applying fill doesn’t work try applying outline fill to solid white.
Step 6) Now its time to animate them, for animations we gonna use Spin within emphasis category and also add Pulse from the same category.
To do that! Select all stars you’ve created by hitting Ctrl + A and from the Animations menu within Ribbon choose Add Animation and select Spin.
Step 7) Select all animations within the Animation pane and double click, it will open animation properties window, select the Timing > Set Repeat to Until end of the slides and later select individual star and set duration values to differ from each other.
Note: Set all animations to Start: With Previous
Step 8) Now again select all stars and go to Animations menu and Click on Add Animation and select Pulse from the emphasis category.
And as we done earlier, select all Pulse animations within Animation pane and Set the Timing > Repeat > Until End of the Slide. And set the duration to 0.2 seconds.
Note: Set all animations to Start: With Previous
And That’s it! Make your stars as tiny you want and play the presentation in Slideshow view. If you’ve followed the instructions above, you’ll have twinkling stars something like in the below video.

Create amazing nights within your slides by just changing the slide backgrounds — as you can see in above video.
If you’ve done something wrong while creating, then don’t worry – down below is the download link for the sample presentation that we worked for this tutorial.
Hope you liked this edition. If you wish to see more coming from us then please do share, comment and subscribe.
Hi! – Thank you for a great tutorial. Exactly what I needed. To the point and it worked! One question – I created one slide with a twinkle effect for an event. The slideshow seems to end when the twinkle duration is over. How do I change that?
Hi Jocelyn,
Try adding the slide duration time, You can find that in the transition tab on the ribbon. The slideshow will end once the slide reaches the transition time. Let us know if that helped.
Thanks for sharing! I’m looking for a kind of starlight animation for slideshow, can you share me? Thanks
